About Qasr Al Hosn

Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi — a fort that began as a watchtower in the 18th century and is now a museum of the city’s history.

Qasr Al Hosn started as a coral-and-sea-stone watchtower guarding a freshwater well, and grew into the fort and palace of the ruling Al Nahyan family. It reopened as a museum in 2018 after a long restoration.

The site includes the Inner Fort, the Outer Palace, the Cultural Foundation with its exhibitions and library, and the House of Artisans, where traditional Emirati crafts such as weaving and palm-frond work are demonstrated.
