About Louvre Abu Dhabi
Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island is an art museum under a vast latticed dome, telling the story of human creativity from prehistory to today.
Louvre Abu Dhabi opened in November 2017 on Saadiyat Island. The building, by architect Jean Nouvel, sits partly over the water beneath a 180-metre dome whose layered pattern lets sunlight fall through as a "rain of light".
Inside, the galleries run in chronological order and place works from different civilisations side by side rather than by country. The collection mixes the museum’s own pieces with loans from French museums, and there are changing exhibitions and a children’s museum. The museum is closed on Mondays.
