About Al Jahili Fort
Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain is one of the largest forts in the UAE, built in the 1890s to protect the city and its palm groves.
Built on the orders of Sheikh Zayed the First, Al Jahili Fort combines a square fort with a distinctive round tower of four concentric tiers. It has been carefully restored and stands in landscaped gardens.
Inside is a permanent exhibition on the British explorer Wilfred Thesiger, who crossed the Empty Quarter in the 1940s, with his photographs of the region and its people.
