About Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood
Al Fahidi, also known as Al Bastakiya, is Dubai’s best-preserved old quarter — narrow lanes, wind-tower houses, small museums, galleries and courtyard cafés beside the Creek.
The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood dates from the late 19th century, when merchants built coral-stone and gypsum houses with wind towers to catch the breeze. Today the restored lanes hold art galleries, small museums, cafés and guesthouses.
It is an easy walk from here to the Textile Souk and the abra station, where a wooden boat crosses the Creek to the Gold and Spice Souks in Deira for one dirham. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding runs heritage tours and traditional meals from a house in the district.
Highlights
