About Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization
The Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, in a converted souk on the Corniche, holds thousands of Islamic artefacts — manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork and scientific instruments.
The museum opened in 2008 in a former traditional souk building on Sharjah’s Majarrah waterfront. Its central dome is decorated inside with a mosaic of the night sky and the signs of the zodiac.
Galleries cover Islamic faith, science and discovery — including astronomy, medicine and navigation — and four galleries of Islamic art arranged by period. It is one of the most important collections of its kind in the region and a short walk from the Heart of Sharjah heritage area.
